Hurricane Season Is Here: Now Is the Time to Prepare

Hurricane season has officially started, and KHON2 recently reported that two tropical disturbances are being monitored in the Eastern Pacific. At this time, neither system is a threat to Hawaii, but this is still an important reminder for every homeowner, property manager, and building owner across the islands.

In Hawaii, we cannot wait until a storm is close before we start thinking about safety. Preparation needs to happen early.

As a building expert, I always remind people that hurricane safety is not only about emergency supplies. It is also about the condition of your home or building. Are your roof connections secure? Are your hurricane ties properly installed? Are loose items around the property secured? Are gutters, drainage areas, windows, doors, and exterior components ready for heavy wind and rain?

Small issues can become major problems during strong winds, flooding, or severe weather. A weak connection, poor maintenance, damaged roofing, or unsecured outdoor item can put people and property at risk.

To help families, property owners, and communities better prepare, I am sharing two free books:

Download History Of Major Disasters In Hawaii here:

The best time to prepare is before there is a warning. Review your home, check your building, make a plan, and learn from past disasters so we can make safer decisions today.

Stay prepared, stay informed, and stay safe.
